Charlotte White Center Receives Grants

Open Enrollment for Charlotte White Center’s LifeJackets Program

Dover-Foxcroft, ME – The Charlotte White Center’s LifeJackets staff is pleased to announce that enrollment in all five of our locations, including Guilford, Milo, Dover-Foxcroft, Corinth, and Dexter is currently open to children ages 12-15 who are interested in learning team-building and outdoor leadership skills. This course includes a capstone experience of a weeklong wilderness expedition each summer to complete the nine-month cycle of training and education.

Participants can now be trained in the Maine Woodsmen curriculum, the first step to becoming certified Junior Maine Guides. The participants will have opportunities to immerse themselves in skill building activities such as day hikes, canoe excursions, map and compass training, and outdoor safety workshops. Skills attained will last participants a lifetime. Weekly meetings include leadership and initiative games, healthy meals/snacks, homework time, and an opportunity to interact with others in a supportive environment.

The Lifejackets experience is free for participants, with the only expectation being a commitment to the program each and every week. Funding is provided by the State of Maine Department of Health and Human Services, The United Way of Eastern Maine, The Burden Foundation, The Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation, PPHC of Mayo Regional Hospital and numerous local organizations.

If you are interested in your having child becoming part of the LifeJackets experience, or know someone who could benefit from the unique blend of outdoor and leadership skills offered by the course, please call Joanie Withee or Stephen Madera, Youth Group Coordinators, at 564-0133 for more information.
